Editor:
Regarding Mr. Ted Rall’s column of July 17, 2008: Mr. Rall, you are an ignorant numb-skull.
Your attack on presumptive presidential candidate John McCain is a dishonor to Senator McCain and to all veterans from that war. The Vietnam war was a painful part of American history, but to characterize enlisted men as criminals is moronic, at best.
Mr. Rall, did you attack Senator John Kerry, an enlisted veteran, during his run for president in 2004 on his gallant service during the Vietnam War? No, of course not. He was your candidate; he was a Democrat; he was the man to knock out George W. Bush. Yet, here you are, calling Senator McCain a war criminal who was “happily shooting up a civilian neighborhood in a major city.” Your words, Mr. Rall.
No one likes to kill people, but it is part of war. If you want to attack John McCain, why don’t you point out his voting record in the Senate, or (the fact) that he is a Republican (which is popular sport in this town), or his immigration policy — anything but attacking his war record. Personally, I think you are just lazy. You look for the easy target. I am surprised you even have a job.
I will agree that it was an unfortunate war, started by a Democratic president, John F. Kennedy. Escalated by another Democratic president, Lyndon B. Johnson. Continued, and then ended, by a Republican president, Richard M. Nixon.
You need to understand that in the United States of America, we proudly honor all of our veterans from every war, enlisted or drafted. Those brave men and women are the reason we are free. They fought for the rights of freedom of speech and the freedom of the press, which you choose to abuse.
Shame on you.

James,
Well said. I just wish the "yellow dog" democrats(and republicans for that matter), would focus on the real issues rather than disparaging a person that served his country(including 5 1/2 years in captivity).
