Heavy-handed 'sheriff' at Mountain View

Editor:

Call off the dogs.

I ran into the new head of Snowmass Village housing maintenance while he was posting the spring clean-up flyers which remind everybody of section 21 of our lease, balconies and decks. He told me, "There is a new sheriff in town, and this time we mean it!" Now, I figured he just didn't know how we like to be neighborly around here, and I let it go. Besides, I don't have anything but a grill, bicycle, or deck furniture outside my door. All of which are covered on the lease.

I went and looked around Mountain View to see how big a deal this really is. I saw a few baby carriers, flowers, children's toys, bicycles, grills, satellite dishes. Nothing offending or out of the ordinary. The owner's units seemed to have the most violations, but they didn't sign a liberty-releasing lease like me on the bottom of the hill.

Then, I got a note on my door instructing me to move my grill to the other side of the house or it will be removed! Last I checked, I could have a bloody grill, and my doorstep is not common space! Nowhere in the lease is common space defined. My doorstep is not common space! In light of the rodeo employee housing screw-up, I would think they would be concerned for their public image.

Leave us alone, Joe! You are our neighbor, not a cold bureaucrat. Call off the dogs. We should not have to worry about losing our homes and our livelihoods because we put our grill on the wrong side of the house. We should not have to worry about being evicted because we hung flowers outside of our cells. Change the lease!
