Every college student should be so fortunate as to have a little Trash in his or her life! Trash finances the education of many college students in the Roaring Fork Valley, including mine. What do I mean by “Trash?”
Well, only imagine! Just by playing Trashy golf, you can finance a college student’s education. Who would have thought?
Let me introduce myself and explain how Trash has positively affected my life. I’m Ashley Fish, a Trashmasters Scholarship recipient, a graduate from Aspen High School, and a sophomore at the Colorado School of Mines. The Trashmasters is a local scholarship fund that gives its proceeds to deserving students in the Roaring Fork valley. There’s a fun twist to this scholarship fund, though. The Trashmasters hold a golf tournament annually, where participants can earn points and prizes by playing Trashy golf! If your golf ball goes into the water, hits a tree, or is even unplayable, you earn Trash points if you score net par or better. I wish these rules applied to golf all of the time!
Such a unique tournament really draws a crowd. Because of all of their participants in such a Trashy golf tournament, The Trashmasters have been able to give over $750,000 in scholarship money to students like you and me in the Roaring Fork valley. Such financial aid has given me the opportunity to dedicate more time to my studies. Because of this, I’ve been able to earn a place on the dean’s list.
Financial aid isn’t the only type of aid they give. The Trashmasters have even dedicated one of their family members as a mentor to me throughout the rest of my college career. He funds 100 percent of my scholarship and gives me valuable advice on how to be successful in academics, my future career, and life in general. I can’t even begin to express how grateful I am to have the Trashmasters family supporting me in my education. I am convinced that the other scholarship recipients feel the same way. Thank you, Trashmasters!
