The Wheeler will rock you

Editor:

My wife and I had the very wonderful opportunity last Saturday night to attend the Queen tribute band that played at the Wheeler Opera House.

I have been a very avid Queen fan since I was in junior high and I was nothing short of amazed. I think Freddy would have been proud. The band was terrific, and the singer resembled Freddy Mercury in movement, voice and mannerisms, so much so that it was almost eerie. If you didn’t attend the show, you missed a fantastic depiction of a legendary band.

I also wanted to commend the staff of the Wheeler. We had never been to a show there, so this was our first, and the staff was utterly perfect and I think they deserve some very positive recognition.

First of all, the person or group that hired a (relatively obscure) band must have really done their homework or was willing to take an incredible risk. I feel that it is the former and not the latter. I read about the talent coming to Aspen to entertain the masses here, and it is really a testament to the Wheeler, Aspen and the community that supports their shows. I am sure that it is not an easy job and it is full of challenging logistical nightmares, but as a common member of the cheering crowd, I felt that the show went on without a single hitch. Except that there was a guy taller than me sitting in front of me whose rhythmic gyrations were such that I felt the need to call the Wheeler doctor a couple of times. The ticket staff was friendly and efficient and the seating people got us to our seats without the use of a compass or a sextant, and always with a sincere smile.

So, well done, Wheeler Opera House staff, and a special thank you to the Queen band for giving my wife and I a very special, memorable, rocking evening. You all are to be commended.

And if you missed the show, you really missed out.
