The Basalt girls softball team swept its doubleheader on Saturday against league unbeaten Gunnison, 5-4, 11-10. The Lady Longhorns secured the school’s first 3A District D championship in its four years of existence.
 
Though the Aspen Skiers lost their first game of the season last week, 33-20, on the road against the Grand Valley Cardinals, Aspen quarterback An­derson Cole still managed to throw for a career-high 215 yards on 14-21at­tempts, while defensive lineman Andrew Goldberg made a career-high 13 stops.
 
The Basalt boy’s soccer team defeated the Coal Ridge Titans 1-0 last week in an 87-minute bout that ended in double \ overtime. The Longhorns dominated in shots on goal, with 17 to the Titans’ two.
