Aspen’s Bauhaus 100 anniversary celebration will kick off a season of summer programming on Thursday with its signature soiree, “the Bauhaus Ball: An Evening of Whimsy and Wonder.”

The free community event, featuring live music, films, Bauhaus-inspired art, a costume contest and a cash bar, will be held at the Wheeler Opera House from 5:30 to 10 p.m.

“The Bauhaus committee has been working hard to put together the Bauhaus Ball, and we know this event will be a great kick-off to summer in Aspen,” project manager Lissa Ballinger said. “I highly encourage everyone to come in costume (or create a costume at the event) and enjoy the many highlights including music from the Aspen High School Jazz Band, Bauhaus inspired art, films and more. I’d also like to thank all of our supporters for the Bauhaus: 100 Aspen and helping us create this whimsical event.”

Aspen Public House will offer a dinner special all evening, while Aspen Brewing Co. will debut its summer pilsner, “Bauhaus Brew.” The ball is one of 50 Bauhaus-themed events that will take place between June and August.
