The Aspen Art Museum tried something new for its annual winter benefit event. Named The Next, the event was held at the institution on Friday, Dec. 28, right at the end of the giving year. The invite called for “Aspen Après,” and the event was a very contemporary and casual party, offering up cocktails, caviar and a silent auction, drawing in locals and visitors with pretty pocket-book packages to bid on.

Co-chairs Alexander Mason Hankin and Constanza Garza canvassed the room, welcoming their guests in casual style – definitely a nod to the new young guard and next generation associating themselves with the museum. Names like Spencer Pariser, Mackenzie Moon and Danielle Hankin on the host committee confirmed this as the young guard selfied and snapshot themselves against the Robert Montgomery “Searock Songlines (2015)” rooftop installation. Aspen Art Museum CEO and Director Heidi Zuckerman and Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper looked on as DJ Dylan spun out the sound.

Only one couple, the Marcuses, Jeff in Kjus and wife Nicola in an eye-catching, artsy floral monochromatic Authier onesie from Performance Ski, showed up truly Aspen Après, marking the attire note literally (I wished there were more). The best of the rest came in traffic-light boldness. Mostly faux furs, chubbies over simple pants or dresses, but delightfully and appropriately, mostly worn with flats best suited for the 3.30 p.m. party time.
