Gettin' down at the Sundeck.

Another week, another closing day in a winter that seems to want to keep on going. This time around, after successful closing-day bashes at Buttermilk (currently awash in uphillers) and Aspen Highlands (not actually closing until April 28) the last two weeks, Snowmass and Aspen Mountain will be jumping into the fray with big to-dos of their own this weekend.

In what seems to be the current fashion, Snowmass will celebrate its closing day the day before its closing day. So expect to go big tomorrow at two on-mountain parties and another one in Base Village as you shut Snowmass down, and then get up and do it again in your own fashion the next day.

The celebration kicks off tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. at Elk Camp, which will be hosting the third annual Surf and Snow Beach Party. There will be free leis, a dance party, margarita blender bikes and, allegedly, a pond skim. From there, make your way up to Gwyn’s High Alpine for the Highway to the Danger Zone Party, which starts at noon. As the name implies, it’s a “Top Gun”-themed party, so bust out the aviators, ’80’s denim and leather jackets and go Maverick, or Goose, or maybe Iceman.

Some time after 2 p.m., ski carefully down to Base Village for the Spring Fling Beach Party & Pig Roast, which will also reportedly be “Top Gun”-themed, and groove to more ’80s hits while you enjoy hot tubs, bottle service, costume contests, a cornhole competition, the third annual pig cookoff, bounce houses and more. Then, at 3:30 p.m. watch as the scantily clad hordes participating in the Swimsuit Ski Down descend from Elk Camp to Base Village. Or, better yet, hitch up your skimpiest Speedo and join the fun.

On Sunday, Aspen Mountain will actually have its closing-day party on its closing day. Shocker, I know. But there’s a decent chance that some parts of Ajax will open for Memorial Day, so maybe I’m speaking too soon. Anyway, for whatever reason, Ajax is all aboard the ’80s train, as well, with an ’80s Prom Party at the Sundeck from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. A king and queen of the prom will be crowned, so make sure to wear your old tuxedo or prom dress if you can still fit into it. Gosling’s Rum will be serving up the drinks all afternoon, so don’t be afraid to download on the gondola if you need to.

Whatever your mode of transportation, plan on getting yourself to the bottom of the mountain after 2 p.m. for the Après Closing Party, which will take place at Ajax Tavern. Enjoy street-food inspired bites, drink specials and a DJ and live it up until the party ends at 6 p.m.

And then, finally, we will be done with closing days – until next week and probably some time in May. There might even be one in June with the way things are going.
