SkiCo opens the fridge

Community members began lining up at Bumps Restaurant before 10 a.m. Friday for the opportunity to receive free produce and dairy products from the Aspen Skiing Co. Hundreds were able to benefit from the giveaway, a result of the closing of the ski area by proclamation of the governor’s office on Sunday. The food, which ran out within the first hour of doors opening, was brought to Bumps from restaurants on all four SkiCo mountains and packaged by employees and volunteers. “It’s the right thing to do and we were happy to help out at this incredibly stressful time for everyone,” said Jeff Hanle’s SkiCo vice president of communications. The company has committed to paying its seasonal employees through March 28. It has also created a page on its website listing ways people can volunteer or help support local businesses during the social distancing emergency ordinance put into place in Aspen and Pitkin County.
