Family, friends and the community at large showed up, most dressed in denim, at the top of Aspen Mountain on Richmond Ridge May 28 to pay tribute to Sam Coffey, who passed away the prior week while on vacation with friends in Mexico. Left, the Coffey family, surrounded by attendees of the memorial service, participated in a massive sound laser, progressively producing louder and louder sound until the mountaintop burst with the crowd collectively sharing a moment of mayhem in Sam’s honor. Top right, the crowd at the service was estimated at over 1,000. Aspen Skiing Co. did not charge those attending for gondola rides. Bottom right, Baker Boyd, left, and Wylie Maple hug it out after sharing their stories of Sam Coffey, whose friendship was legendary.
