The body discovered in the Colorado River over the weekend has been identified as Joshua Gomez, 29, of Rifle.
His remains were discovered on an island on the river west of Parachute on Saturday around 4 p.m., according to a press release sent out Monday.
The Garfield County Coroner’s Office worked with deputies from the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office and Garfield County Search and Rescue to investigate and recover the remains.
Gomez was last seen at a bus stop in New Castle around May 25, the press release says. The cause of death was not released, but no injuries or trauma were noted during the autopsy. More information may be available in several weeks following toxicology and microscopic examinations.
Anyone with information regarding Gomez’s prior whereabouts is asked to call a coroner’s office investigator at (970) 665-6335.
