There will be awards for weird trash, raffle prizes, plus a bountiful barbecue served by the Rotary Club during Snowmass Village Town Clean Up Day, which is Friday, May 18.

Now in its 38th year, the annual pick-up-the-village day begins with a 9 a.m. meeting at the Daly Lane depot for area assignments, gloves, bags and tickets for lunch and the raffle. Shuttles will be available to take volunteers to locations beyond walking distance.

“If you can't work all morning, don't worry. You can come, go and help as you please and as your schedule allows,” according to an announcement from the town.

The work part of clean up day finishes at noon in Town Park and is followed by a party with food and prizes including lift tickets, dinners, gift cards, hotel stays, concert tickets and vouchers for dry cleaning, according to town spokesman Travis Elliott.

Notable contenders for the most interesting piece of trash award in the year's past have included a car bumper, money and a love letter. One year, the winner was the metal sign from the Mountain Dragon’s delivery car, which was found with all of their deliveries’ phone numbers next to it.

It’s advised that people wear clothing that can get dirty, wear comfortable walking shoes and be prepared for changing weather conditions. Contact Travis Elliott, telliott@tosv.com for more information.
