The identity of the person whose body was discovered Nov. 24 at the Grizzly Creek Rest Area in Glenwood Springs has been released, and authorities are looking for more information into what appears to have been a suicide.
According to a press release Wednesday from Robert Glassmire, Garfield County Coroner, the victim’s name is Matthew Davis, 26, of Delta.
The Garfield County Coroner’s Office last Saturday was dispatched to the investigation scene that is located along the north bank of the Colorado River and within the boundary of the Grizzly Creek Rest Area along Interstate 70.
“The decedent had an apparent gunshot wound of the head and a firearm was found within reach of the decedent,” the statement said. It noted that the manner of death was most consistent with a suicide.
The investigation is active and the coroner’s office is seeking witnesses who may have had contact with the man prior to his death. He was driving a 2006 green Ford Escape with Colorado plates.
Those who may have information regarding his whereabouts before arriving at the rest area are asked to contact an investigator at (970) 665-6335.
