Officials called a snow day for Aspen-area schools Wednesday as a winter storm moves in.

Aspen Weather is forecasting 8 to 14 inches at local ski areas by the end of the day Wednesday as snowfall reported in the last 24 hours hit 10 inches at Snowmass Ski Area.

The message from Pitkin Alert was sent at 5:20 a.m. Wednesday advising the snow day for all schools, including Aspen School District, Basalt schools, Wildwood School, Aspen Community School and Aspen Country Day School.

“School is cancelled today,” the message said.

Downvalley schools were also affected, including Roaring Fork School School District, Two Rivers Community school, Ross Montessori, Yampah High and St. Stephen.
