Pitkin County Sheriff Joe DiSavlo’s Sheriff’s Cup golf tournament raised $93,955 for the local nonprofit Huts for Vets.
The third annual tournament was held at the Aspen Golf Club in June. A check for funds raised was presented to the veterans-service organization at Wednesday’s Board of County Commissioners meeting, where DiSalvo was recognized with a proclamation for “meritorious dedication and outstanding community service to Pitkin County’s veterans foundations” due to his fundraising work through the golf tournament.
Huts for Vets is a non-profit foundation that provides therapeutic outdoor experiences for veterans and active duty service members, at no cost to the participants, utilizing the 10th Mountain Division Huts located in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Sheriff DiSalvo has supported the Huts for Vets program since its inception in 2013, and in 2014 facilitated the donation of a retired sheriff patrol vehicle to aid the foundation’s efforts in accessing the backcountry.
