I very much enjoyed the July 4 Hazel Miller concert at Confluence Park. Thank you Glenwood for this friendly multicultural community event!

But there was one fly in this pie. Why do parents let their toddlers romp right in front of the speakers with no ear protection? Some mothers even danced in front of booming speakers with infants in arms. That mother-child affection is cute and all, but aren’t those little inner ears hyper-sensitive to loud noises? And don’t loud noises lead to permanent hearing loss?

You can go to a concert without hearing protection. That’s your decision to make. But children have no frame of reference and no choice.
