The 243rd Birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps will be observed at 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 10, at the Aspen Grove Cemetery flagpole. Marines and friends of the Corps are invited.
Veterans Day Ceremonies are open to the public and will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, at the reconstructed Veterans Memorial next to the Pitkin County Courthouse on Main Street in Aspen.
Prior to the 11a.m. ceremony, veterans are invited to march as a group from Paepcke Park on Main Street to the Memorial, departing at 10 a.m. The 100th anniversary of the end of World War I will be observed. Veterans are encouraged to wear items of military memorabilia.
Grassroots Community TV will air interviews with local veterans participating in the Library of Congress Veterans History Project continuously on Veterans Day. Following the ceremony, Aspen Elks Lodge #224 will host its annual Veterans Day luncheon at the lodge.
